Scripture: John 8:12
Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” NKJV

Hello, my name is Bishop Alphanzo Mazibuko from the Kingdom of Faith Church in Bophelong, South Africa. This testimony could never explain all the wondrous things the Lord has done and the doors He has opened in my life. Signs, wonders and miracles have followed that are too many to mention or comprehend. But this testimony is about what it took for the Lord to gather my attention for His glory. Enjoy!

I grew up here about two hours south of Johannesburg, South Africa. My roots are all over this place. My dad worked in a lumber yard and mom took care of all the kids. We were nine children in total and I was the fifth born.

Mamma made sure we were a church family as we attended a Dutch Reformed Church. Being a church kid, I was always involved in church things. I joined the choir and the band. With my trombone I was active in everything church.

Then I joined a gang. Everything changed when I was on the streets. I was working for Coke a Cola driving a delivery truck and my instrument playing was no longer for God. I became a wild child. I organized the “Even Beats” band looking for fame and fortune with my newly acquired bass guitar. I quit my day job driving the truck, but we didn’t make ends meet with our songs.

Then I was offered a golden opportunity to join up with diamond and gold smugglers. For a short time, it provided a great income and we could continue playing in the band.

In 1979 my lifestyle became reckless. Out of nowhere I was stabbed. They took me to the hospital but by the time we arrived it was no good. I was pronounced dead! How do I know? I was standing over myself watching all the action. The harder I tried to jump back into my body the more restraint was holding me back. To the doctors credit he did everything he could to revive me, but it didn’t work. All I could do was watch.

This was on a Friday night when they placed a toe tag on me. They moved my dead body lying on the gurney and slid it into a hallway. They all left. There I was in total darkness.

Monday morning the postmortem doctor showed up to prepare me for burial. I heard the Lord speak, “Go back and preach the gospel.”

I jumped back into my body as the restraints were released. I woke up in front of the doctor. I was coughing and grunting. He was shocked and astonished. He shouted, he’s alive, he’s alive!” He asked me, “what are you doing?” I said, “I’m back from that awful dark place and I was told by Jesus to come back here and go preach the gospel.”

I stayed in the hospital until Friday and then they sent me home. I was there on bed rest to heal my wound. Then it all came back to me when I was attacked with the knife and fell on the road.

I returned home remembering that I was to preach the Gospel. But I didn’t know how? I just remembered a little from my church experiences.

I opened my Bible and began reading. I didn’t understand anything. I cried and then prayed, “Lord send me someone who can teach me.”

A short distance away from where I was there was a tent revival going on. I didn’t know about it and no one ever mentioned it to me. Every day I opened my Bible and read but could not understand. The revival was not going well. The preacher prayed and inquired of the Lord what to do, He said, “Move to a new area I will show you.”

The next day a tent was being erected outside my window. I couldn’t go to the revival, so they brought the revival to me.

I was confined to my bed and every night the gospel was preached through my open window. I listened, I heard, and I surrendered my life to Jesus Christ. The evangelist was Khole Pedi Lebowa. Simon Khature was one of the preaching evangelists who became my mentor and spiritual father. He was from the Full Gospel Bible School in Soweto, South Africa.

It was time to gather another band — a band for Jesus. Our first cassette was Streams of Life and I wrote and performed all the songs. It was the beginning of big things for the Lord.

For the past 40 years the light of Jesus has been real in my life with signs, wonders and miracles and I owe it all to Him. He chose me!

The Cross to me defines the mystery of what Jesus did 2,000 years ago — He paid my debt in spirit, soul and body when He purchased us from the darkness and ravages of sin.

Jesus hung on the Cross between two depraved humans and offered a choice — the same choice we have today. One chose eternal life while the other chose eternal death. What do you choose?

Prayer: Father thank you for making a way for every one of us to leave the total darkness and walk in the extreme light of Jesus. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!
