“Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood” NKJV
Hello, my name is Pastor Phamoli Motebele, but everyone calls me Reverend Motebele. I am the Pastor of E.E. Xokozela Congregation for the Uniting Presbyterian Church of South Africa in Nqamakwe, South Africa.
I was born in the small village of Maclear, South Africa, in the Eastern Cape near Mthatha. I was number five of five children. My dad worked in a manufacturing plant and later in life became an Evangelist. Mom was at home. We all grew up in church and knew all the routines.
I was a shepherd boy from ages 10 to 20 attending school when I could. I graduated high school with no path in mind. Then one night I had a vision and heard Jesus speak to me. He very clearly said, “Make note of everything you are going to see.” Then His voice was gone, and I was watching a cinema screen with three short films. The first short film was a church fully loaded with people. The second was a church about half full. And the third short film was of a church sparsely occupied. When the final short film was complete I was shivering in fear, not knowing what was going on. Then the voice of Jesus returned and said, “Fear not! I am with you. You will be preaching to this third group.”
That was in 1996. For the next eight years I was full of passion to study the scriptures and seek all God had for me. But I was confused about what to do next. I prayed and asked God for more information but it never came in a way I could recognize.
In 2002, I entered the Seminary graduating three years later. I knew in my heart that I was on the right track for my life. When I became a Pastor, I met Yoliswa and we married. We now have one three-year-old child.
The Holy Spirit has given me gifts which minister to His people. One Easter Sunday during our service I saw a vision of a dark cloud. The Lord told me that there was someone in the congregation who was in great pain. They had a leg that doctors could not heal. I called out to the congregation and a lady stood up and hobbled to the front. I prayed for her and she was healed.
That started a series of times when the Holy Spirit revealed such things in services and people were called up and healed.
One Sunday I was preaching in the pulpit and I saw myself in the back of the church watching over the people — while I was still preaching! I learned from this experience that I am their shepherd and accountable for each one of them. It’s a breathtaking experience to see the accountability I have to the Lord for these people. It was a wake-up call of gigantic proportions. It showed me just how important God’s people are to Him.
I also get visions in my sleep, I see people strengthening in their walk with the Lord or I feel their pain.
My favorite Bible verse is Psalm 119:18 “Open my eyes to see the miracles in your teachings” NCV Bible Paraphrase.
The Cross to me is the symbol of Jesus Christ. That He died on the Cross for me that I may have everlasting life. I am forever grateful.
This Cross planted today brings hope to our community. We will be known as the church with the large Cross of Jesus Christ. Jesus is here for them as we reach out to our community.
Prayer: Father thank you that Jesus is involved in our lives in way we cannot see or understand. Thank You He is here. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!
