Scripture: Proverbs 18:21a
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue” NKJV

In her book “Untamed Seas” Deborah Kiley set out with four other people on a high seas adventure. They were delivering a fifty-eight-foot Yacht to Florida. They set sail in Maine following the coastline of the USA. Somewhere in the Atlantic, off the coast of North Carolina, they met a ferocious storm. The outcome was something they never even considered. There yacht was swamped in shark infested waters and headed to the bottom.

The next thing they knew they were treading water riding out the storm in shark infested waters. They had no fresh water or food. They tried several times to get into a capsized rubber life raft but to no avail as the storm raged on. The storm quieted down after 18 hours. Exhausted they were able to climb into their rubber Zodiac life boat.

Reports are that Deborah silently recited the Lord’s Prayer and looked to the Lord to teach her throughout her shark infested waters experience. While Deborah was silently praying one of the other crew members was vocally cursing God for their situation — condemning Him for being in this predicament.

When a Russian rescue boat finally picked up Deborah the cursing sailor was nowhere to found. On their fourth day of drifting in the ocean he drank sea water, became delirious, jumped over board and was eaten by sharks.

Demonstrative example — you bet! “Death and life are in the power of the tongue” NKJV

Every day in the shark infested waters of life I have choices to make whether to curse God or embrace Him, asking how I can learn from my situation. Written more than four thousand years ago, this Proverb speaking about the power in the tongue says it all. I’ve been warned.

Crabbiness, irritableness, rudeness, snappy – grumpy responses have no place in the kingdom — rather to fill my speech with Galatians 5:22-23: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.” NKJV

I don’t suspect that choosing crabbiness, irritableness, rudeness, snappy and grumpy, to project my witness, will cause me to become delirious and consumed by sharks — but now that I think about it — the Lord’s final judgment could be far worse!

Prayer: Father help me to reflect the fruits of your Spirit as I speak and live my life in shark infested waters. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!

Scripture: Matthew 6:33
“Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” NKJV

Frank Sinatra was a musical icon for nearly seventy years. His 1969 hit smash song was written by Paul Anka — “My Way” — arguably became more closely identified with him than any other song he recorded.

The song was dripping with the Self-Made Man concept, his equation for success, became instantly popular.

Then there’s an old Seinfeld episode in which George and Jerry have written a TV show and spent considerable time and effort selling it to a national network.

As the national network is working on the idea George works himself into a frenzy of worry and concern and decides he is about to die. Visiting a therapist he says, “I just knew God would never allow me to succeed!”

As George is talking the therapist interrupts him and states, “Last week you told me you don’t believe in God.” To which George answers, “I do for the bad stuff!”

George and Jerry also reek with the self-made man concept — even to the point that when it is convenient — George blames God for something that has not happened even though he doesn’t believe in Him.

If you embrace and believe the Self-Made Man point of view of Frank, Paul, George or Jerry — you may want to reconsider because their equation is incomplete. For they have all the world has to offer — and yes — they probably all did it “My Way” — but in the end what do you think they will do with Jesus?

Or better yet — what will you do with Jesus?

Jesus said in John 14:6 — “I AM THE WAY, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” NKJV (Emphasis added)

Is your life full of the Self-Made Man “My Way” or the “Jesus Way”?

Prayer: Father help me to always go the Way of Jesus in my life. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!

Scripture: John 17:17
“Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth” NLT

The story is told of four preachers who had a series of theological arguments. Three were always in agreement against the fourth. One day, the odd preacher out, had lost again. If you will, the score was three to one. So, he decided to appeal to a higher authority.

“Oh, Jesus!” he cried. “I know in my heart that I am right and they are wrong! Please give me a sign to prove it to them!”

It was a beautiful, sunny day. As soon as the preacher finished his prayer, a storm cloud moved across the sky above the four. It rumbled once and dissolved. “It’s a sign from Jesus! See, I’m right, I knew it!” But the other three disagreed, pointing out in humanistic terms that storm clouds form on hot days.

So the preacher prayed again: “Oh, Jesus, I need a bigger sign to show these guys that I am right and they are wrong. So please, Jesus, a bigger sign!” This time four storm clouds appeared, rushed toward each other to form one big cloud. Even a large bolt of lightning slammed into a tree on a distant hill.

“I told you I was right!” cried the preacher, but his friends insisted that in humanistic terms nothing had happened. All that happened could be explained by natural causes.

The preacher was getting ready to ask for a “very big” sign, but just as he said, “Oh Jesus!” the sky turned pitch black, the earth shook, and a deep booming voice said, “HEEEEEEEE’S RIIIIIIIGHT!”

The preacher put his hands on his hips, turned to the other three, and said, “Well?”

“So,” shrugged one of the other preachers, “now it’s three to two.”

Billy Graham put it this way, “One plus God is a majority.”

Some when confronted with the truth in overwhelming measure are just plain stubborn. It is their way or the highway. They do not understand that one standing in truth with Jesus is a majority.

It’s a serious problem — this problem of putting Jesus’ words on an equal level with man’s words. But spiritual truth is not determined by taking a vote. In fact, even if one thousand people agree with us, it makes no difference unless we agree with what Jesus revealed to us in the Bible.

As Jesus prayed to His Father in the Garden of Gethsemane, “Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth.” John 17:17 NLT (Bible Paraphrase)

Prayer: Father help me to look to Your Word for truth confirmation. Thank You for sending Jesus the only one in whom I can place my utmost trust and confidence. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!

Scripture: Psalm 73:19
“They are destroyed in a moment; they are swept away by terrors” NCV (Bible Paraphrase) The massive 9.0 earthquake and Eleven story wave hit Japan on March 11, 2011. It laid waste the world’s deepest breakwater.

The 1.2-mile breakwater at the mouth of Kamaishi Bay was 60 feet thick, and nearly 200 feet deep. No stranger to the violent sea. It was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the deepest breakwater in the world.

The breakwater was obliterated by the March 11, 2011 — Eleven story wave. Many of the coastal levees — the final line of defense between the breakwater and the shore — were also swept away by the tsunami as if they were seaweed.

A separate 30-foot levee at Miyako that stretched along four miles had been nicknamed ‘The Great Wall of China’ by locals. Apparently, they believed that the wall would protect them. However, the powerful Eleven Story Wave breached the levee in moments destroying the city. Transforming it into a muddy swamp.

Traces of seawater from the powerful wave were found as high as 115 feet or 11 stories high.

“The wave’s power was far beyond our predictions.” Tomoya Shibayama, professor of ocean engineering at Waseda University.

The shock that another man made invincible object was obliterated by the power of God sent a message. Just as messages have been sent by God through the ages. The power of God destroyed the walls around Jericho. The power of God parted the Red Sea. The power of God descended over Jerusalem 2,000 years ago, transforming ordinary men who transformed the entire world.

No matter what your situation might be — Jesus promises to look after those who love Him!

Proverbs 14: 26 “In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge”

Prayer: Father thank you for sending your transforming power to work through me for your Kingdom purposes.

Scripture: Romans 10:9
“If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” NLT (Bible Paraphrase)

You probably saw a series of catchy television commercials for MasterCard a few years back. They started by identifying some things that people can buy with their MasterCard — then they show a moment that is priceless and end by saying — “There are some things money can’t buy, for everything else there’s MasterCard.”

I’m not writing today to endorse the use of MasterCard — I’m here to tell you about a different card I carry around. It’s a Spiritual card — The kind of commitment that separates the wheat from the chaff — the sheep from the goats. It is the MASTERS CARD — allow me explain.

The MASTERS CARD has many benefits:

The MASTERS CARD has unlimited grace.

The MASTERS CARD has no payments due.

The MASTERS CARD has no finance charges.

The MASTERS CARD is accessible 24/7/365.

The MASTERS CARD has enormous joy benefits.

The MASTERS CARD has abundant love benefits.

The MASTERS CARD has everlasting peace benefits.

The MASTERS CARD bill was prepaid at a price I could not afford.

The MASTERS CARD is a free gift to me from the Lord Jesus Christ.

How does one obtain the spiritual MASTERS CARD? Google it @ Romans 10:9.

Jesus is standing by right now — this offer expires at the Rapture — Don’t delay. Do it today. “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father” Mark 13:32 NKJV

Most things the MasterCard can buy — but the things it can’t buy are spiritual — for that you’ll need The MASTERS CARD which includes salvation and eternal life.

Prayer: Father thank you for sending Jesus offering His Masters Card for all who believe He died for our sins. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!

Scripture: Luke 9:23
“Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his Cross daily, and follow Me” NKJV

The story is told of a young man going through many trials and tribulations in his life. He was at the end of his rope, seeing no way out, he dropped to his knees in prayer.

“Lord, I can’t go on,” he said. “I have too heavy of a Cross to bear.”

The Lord replied, “My son, if you can’t bear its weight, just place your Cross inside this room. Then, open that other door and exchange your Cross for any other Cross you wish.”

The young man filled with relief said, “Thank you, Lord,” and he did as he was told.

Upon entering the other door, he saw many Crosses, some so large the tops were not visible. Then, he spotted a tiny Cross leaning against a far wall.

“I’d like to exchange for that tiny one, Lord,” he whispered. And the Lord replied, ” My son, that is the Cross you just brought in.”

When life’s problems seem overwhelming, it helps to look around and see what other people are coping with. You may consider yourself far more fortunate than you imagined.

Prayer: Father you are in control and Jesus is driving the bus — so help me tap into Holy Spirit wisdom as I deal with my problems of life. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!

Volume 18 Number 024

Christian Cross Ministries Participant O. M. from Bakersfield, California contributed financially in support of today’s cdd. Thank you – PTL! pb

Scripture: Zechariah 6:5
The angel answered, “These are the four winds of heaven, which originate with the Master of the whole earth” MSG (Bible Paraphrase)

A Midwestern farmer had a weathervane on his barn. Written on both sides of the arrow of the weathervane was “Jesus is love.”  When asked why the saying was on the weather vane the farmer answered, “This is to remind me that no matter which way the wind blows — Jesus loves me.”

When the warm “south wind” blows-in with soothing and balmy breezes and brings showers of blessings — Jesus is love. “Every good action and every perfect gift is from God.” (James 1:17a NCV Bible Paraphrase).

When the cold “north wind” of trials and testing sweeps down from Siberia — out of Canada upon us — Jesus is love. “We know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.  (Romans 8:28a NKJV).

When the “west winds” blow hard upon us with punishing stormy intent — Jesus is love. “Whom the LORD loves He chastens” (Hebrews 12:6a NKJV).

When the “east wind” threatens to sweep away all that we have — Jesus is love.  “You can be sure that God will take care of everything you need, his generosity exceeding even yours in the glory that pours from Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19 MSG Bible Paraphrase).

Perhaps you are discouraged and downhearted today as I write. If so — remember this — Jesus loves you and He cares.

Yes — no matter which way the wind is blowing — Jesus is love.

Prayer: Father thank you that the Love of Jesus is constant in my life no matter how hard the wind blows. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!

Scripture: 2 Timothy 1:5
“I remember your genuine faith, for you share the faith that first filled your grandmother Lois and your mother, Eunice. And I know that same faith continues strong in you” NLT (Bible Paraphrase)

What happens when mom’s and grandmothers and great grandmothers pray?

The following story is told about Molly who was a widow with a son in his late 20’s. Her son’s name was Archie and he sold umbrellas.

And Jeannie who had a daughter in her mid-20’s named Britt and she sold fans.

Molly learned over time that if it was cloudy and rain was predicted — sales of umbrellas went up and Archie’s income increased.

Jeannie on the other hand learned that when the sun was shining and it was hot — sales of fans was very good and Britt’s income increased.

Molly and Jeannie met every week for Bible study on opposite sides of town. Molly met with her friends in a northern suburb. Jeannie met with her friends in a western suburb. They spent a great deal of time studying the Bible and at the end of each study the ladies would pray with their friends for their perspective need.

Molly asked for clouds and rain to bless her son Archie.

Jeannie prayed for sunshine and heat to financially bless her daughter Britt.

Whose prayer do you think God answered?

Scripture: Psalm 78:4
“We’re not keeping this to ourselves, we’re passing it along to the next generation – God’s fame and fortune, the marvelous things he has done” MSG Bible Paraphrase

Queen Victoria’s reign over the British Empire the last half of the Nineteenth Century
(June 1837 – January 1901) endured for more than 63 years. She is the longest reigning Lady Monarch in the world. Her official titles were: Queen Victoria and Empress of India.

During her reign England experienced great financial growth and land expansion. Victoria had 9 children. 26 of her 42 grandchildren married into royal and noble families throughout Europe, solidifying the continent —  her nickname became “the grandmother of Europe.”

The story is told about Queen Victoria that during her reign, she listened to  Royal Chaplain Farrar preach a sermon about the 2nd coming of Christ. During his sermon those closest to the Queen noticed teas swell up in her eyes. Immediately after the service the Queen asked the preacher to join her for tea.

During their conversation the preacher noticed the great amount of emotion the Queen exhibited for the sermon and inquired what part of the sermon she was most moved by. The Queen replied, “I wish that Jesus returns while I am still alive, because nothing would give me more joy than to pass on the crown of Great Britain and India to Him with my own hands.”

It is said of the Queen that as a young girl she gave her heart to Jesus. Now toward the end of her reign she wanted to pass on her crowns to Jesus.

Queen Victoria’s desire gives me pause for thought: If Jesus returned today am I prepared to pass on everything I have for Him?

Prayer: Father everything I own and have is yours — help me use it wisely passing on the Good News of Jesus Christ for your Kingdom. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!

4251 cdd Virtue Super Store
Monday January 30, 2017
Volume 18 Number 021

Scripture: 2 Peter 1:5
“But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge” NKJV

Driving to the new mall I came upon a sign that read Virtue Super Store. I parked my  car and walked toward the front door just as it swung open wide. Next thing I knew I was standing inside. I saw angels standing everywhere. One zoomed to the front and directed me to a shopping cart saying, “Welcome my child — shop with care.”

Everything a human needed appeared to be in the Virtue Super Store. A large sign caught my attention, “Fill your cart and come back for more, no limit zone.” I had shopped in the Mall of America, Target, Macy’s, Walmart and countless stores throughout the world but none could compare to the aisles full of virtues I was witnessing. Shopping cart in hand I started down the aisle.

First, I found some Patience.
Love was next in that same row.
Further down was Understanding,
I certainly needed that everywhere I go.

I located three boxes of Wisdom
Faith came in a double pack.
Charity would help me of course
I would need some off the stack.

I couldn’t miss the Holy Ghost
The presence was all over the place.
Then some Strength and Courage too
Helping me run this very special race.

My shopping cart was getting full
but I remembered I needed Grace,
And then I located sweet Salvation
Salvation was free in God’s virtue place.

Walking up the aisle
I saw Prayer and placed that in,
I knew when I stepped outside
I would run headlong into ugly sin.

Peace and Joy were plentiful,
Standing colorfully on the shelf.
Song and Praise were very near
I just boldly helped myself.

Then I moved to the counter
Time to pay my virtues bill,
I thought I had everything
Teaching the Masters will.

I spoke to the scanning angel
“Now just how much do I owe?”
There was just a smile and said
“Just take them everywhere you go.”

I asked again “How much now,
How much do I really owe?”
“My child” the angel spoke to me,
“Jesus paid it all a long – long time ago”

Then I awoke and understood that yes, there is a Virtue Super Store in my Bible. It was then I promised Jesus I’d study each virtue and diligently apply it in my life.

How about You?

Prayer: Father thank you that your virtues are free for the taking — give me the will power and determination to use them all to your glory. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!

Scripture: John 20:30-31

“And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name” NKJV

Jesus Christ fulfilled more than 350 Messiah prophecies from the Old Testament.

Following are eight of the most prominent Messiah prophecies Jesus fulfilled:
Place of birth (Micah 5:2)
Time of birth (Daniel 9:25)
Manner of birth (Isaiah 7:14)
Betrayal (Zechariah 11:12, 13)
People mocking (Psalm 22:7,8)
Manner of death (Psalm 22:16-18)
Hands, feet, and side pierced (Zechariah 12:10)
Burial (Isaiah 53:9) “He had done no wrong and had never deceived anyone. But he was buried like a criminal; he was put in a rich man’s grave” NLT (Bible Paraphrase)

Professor Peter Stoner in Science Speaks uses the science of compound probabilities to help us clearly understand that Jesus is the Messiah. This is a mathematical study of situations and odds of possible outcomes. Stoner proves, through his rigorous equations, that Jesus Christ fulfilled the Messiah prophecies made hundreds of years earlier.

The compound probability of just this list of eight prophecies being fulfilled is one-in-one hundred quadrillion (100,000,000,000,000,000) (1 in 10 to the 17th power).

Upper MidwestUnderstanding this number is mind boggling. We live in Minnesota and if we add the area of North and South Dakota and Wisconsin (that equals nearly 300,000 square miles of real estate) and then cover the area with silver dollars — the pile of silver dollar coins equaling one hundred quadrillion would reach about two feet high.

Next, mark only one silver dollar by painting it bright red, fly randomly over these four states dropping the bright red painted silver dollar. Then blindfold an expert skydiver and have him parachute anywhere he wants in the four state area.

Red Silver DollarWhat chance would the parachutist have of picking up the marked red silver dollar while blindfolded — while randomly skydiving — over 300,000 square miles? Answer — it would take a miracle.

My point is this — the exact same chance that the prophets had of writing these eight prophecies and having them all come true in any one man hundreds of years later. A miracle!

The Lord Jesus Christ in miracle fashion fulfilled all eight of these Messiah prophecies. In practical terms, would anyone fail to invest in a financial venture if the only chance of failure was one in 10 to the 17th power? This is how secure an investment it is to believe Jesus as the Messiah. Ultimately, the rewards for such an investment are way out of this world!

Now let’s see what happens when Stoner raises the odds using a total of 48 of the more than 350 prophecies. We find the chances of one man fulfilling forty-eight of the Messiah prophecies to be: 1 in 10 to the 157th power. The number looks like this.

1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,
000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,
000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000, 000,000

Our Silver Dollar coins would be more than twelve feet deep over Minnesota, North and South Dakota and Wisconsin — with one man fulfilling 48 prophecies.

But, Jesus Christ fulfilled over 350 prophecies! (1 in 10 to the 628th power — or 628 zeroes). The coins would be more than 50 feet high. 300,000 square miles of Silver Dollars standing higher than most trees. Standing the height of a five story building.

Conclusion: It would take more faith to deceive yourself, telling yourself that Jesus is NOT the Messiah, than to accept the FACT that He is!

Refusing to believe is a choice. And we all know choices have consequences.

Prayer: Father thank you for Jesus Christ — 100{438a7d4fb4d553ed786f81e925bb4b9cef0198d2b00cf400ab4e959f6d826bb6} God and 100{438a7d4fb4d553ed786f81e925bb4b9cef0198d2b00cf400ab4e959f6d826bb6} man coming to earth fulfilling the Messiah prophecies. Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that believing we may have life everlasting in His name. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!
