Scripture: Hebrews 11:6b

Liberia, West Africa, Background Information:

Liberia was founded in 1847 by the American Colonization Society (ACS). Liberia was formed to offer safe migration for free African Americans returning to Africa. Sierra Leone was established by Great Britain for the same purpose.
When speaking to a Liberian today, what stands out is their description of life before, during and after their Civil War, which lasted from 1990-2003. The Pastors interviewed all lived during this time and faithfully prayed for a proper solution to hostilities. Today the country is still mending from wounds only the Lord can heal. pb

Hello, my name is Pastor Willie Kpanah. Everyone calls me Pastor Willie. This is my Cross Testimony of how The Lord answers my prayers for those in need.

I grew up in the Zorzor area of Liberia. We were about 200 miles due north from the Capital City of Monrovia, near the Guinea Border. I was the third of seven children. My dad was a farmer who became ill at a very young age and was hospitalized. Mom held the farm together as we grew up. We were not a church family. I learned of church from friends and occasionally attended with them through high school. After graduation I went to work doing odd jobs such as cutting grass and overall maintenance.

During the civil war my best friend was killed by the hostilities. It was difficult to understand why he had to give his life. Another friend invited me to church. In my sorrow I was looking for a way to deal with the violence, destruction and madness all around me.

That day the preacher spoke about John 3:16-17 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved” NKJV

For the first time it became clear to me that God sacrificed His Son for me. He gave His life for me. So, I can have eternal life. I accepted Jesus Christ as Lord of my life that day.

I received a Bible and began to read. It came alive to me as I was chosen for such a time as this! Then on to Bible school where I met my wife Helena. We married and have four children.

After the war I began pastoring Living Waters Fellowship Church, Paynesville, Liberia. The church grew, and our family grew. I became known as the pastor to seek when you need an answer to prayer.

A lady brought her young boy for prayer. He was dumb. He could not speak. She had been through all the medical treatments she could afford and had no hope for the future of her son. She brought him to me and asked me to pray. I prayed for his speech to return asking Jesus to set him free from the demonic influences holding his tongue back. Immediately he spoke and has been speaking ever since.

A man and woman asked for prayer. They were caught up in a legal battle that was destroying their lives. They were innocent victims and I asked Jesus to intervene for them. I prayed for the demonic influences tormenting them through the court system to be destroyed. The answer came swiftly in legal terms as within a few weeks everything was thrown out of court. They were set free. Jesus in Lord!

My favorite Bible verse is: Matthew 6:33 “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” NKJV This verse is real in my life and it can be for you too.

The Cross to me means Redemption through the blood of Jesus Christ. His life was sacrificed, and He shed His blood for my sins. This redemption is available to everyone who asks, and it is available right now.

This Cross planted will be a symbol for all who pass by that Jesus Christ is here. When they need Him, they will find Him here, at the Cross. And we will pray together for their deliverance no matter the issue.

Prayer: Father thank you that the gift of eternal life is available for those who seek You. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!
